A glimpse into my reality

I've got the exact GPS coordinates for this shot but it was taken somewhere between the Arghandab river valley and Zabul, from Frontenac on the way to Qalat. I love clouds in the sky, summers here often just feel like an unending blaze of burning blue sky. Clouds remind me of better (cooler) times.

There is a pretty interesting old boneyard of Soviet and Afghan Migs and choppers at Shindand, if you don't mind a few odd fuses and other odd bang-type devices laying around. The last time I saw all of these jets was in 2004 when they were still lined up at the airfield. I love airplanes and these are genuine pieces of history here. I have to confess that I popped a few of the little data plates off for souvenirs.

This is Kandahar airfield, my home sweet home. It still blows my mind to see the place and compare it to what it used to be like back in the day.

Kandahar City with the De Maranjan Ghar razorback separating the plain from the Arghandab river valley to the northwest. The color is the result of a pretty severe dust storm rolling in from the red desert a few miles out to the west.
