I was just reminded again yesterday evening about how out-of-step I am with the everyday hustle and bustle of life. My dad needed a few things from Wal-Mart and I did as well so we hopped in my truck and headed on down to the store. As we walked in, we agreed to meet back in the front of the store in 20 minutes to check out.
Fast-forward 35 minutes later and I’m aimlessly wandering up and down the aisles with no idea what I needed and I looked down and realized that I had a packet of pens and a tube of toothpaste in my cart. Talk about sensory overload, whoa. There was just entirely too much stuff there! My dad and I had a good laugh about it and he commented that if I am this way after only being disconnected for 11 months, what would it be like to bring somebody back from the past, say a pioneer or something, and turn them loose in Wal-Mart? An entertaining thought indeed.
And tomorrow should be pretty fun! I talked my mom into coming shooting with me. She’s quite the adventurous type and has always been down for whatever crazy trip I suggest to her. We’ll see how she handles a 12 gauge when we try some skeet shooting. The very first time I’d ever taken her shooting with me, my dad and I just kind of sat back and watched as she pretty much out-shot us, even with all of our manly training and experience. Maybe, just maybe…women ARE blessed with more innate attributes than amazing shopping or babymakin’ skills, or the ability to confound and confuse with their often-times skewed logic…haha DON’T SHOOT! It’s good to be humbled and I imagine that after tomorrow, I will be once again.
Anyway, it’s looking to be a great day. My cat came in and plopped down on my head this morning just in time for my sleep-addled eyes to take in an absolutely beautiful sun-rise creeping across the plains. A gentle reminder that life is absolutely worth living. As long as there are guns, girls, and Chinese food; Pete will hope and pray for peace on Earth.
